Tech boost for ChemoPower
Improvements on a small part of a software could spell big benefits for a company. This was one local enterprise’s happy experience when they brought onboard Ms Georgina Estelle Seah from IMRE, under A*STAR’s Technology for Enterprise Capability Upgrading (T-Up) scheme, through which researchers could be seconded to local companies to build in-house R&D or technical capabilities and help companies with technology transfer and adoption.
Using her expertise in material characterisation, Ms Seah set about developing a methodology for local company, ChemoPower Technology, to export and process data from a Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry equipment and improving the overall user-friendliness of the software. Her efforts paid off handsomely. The company not only saw a boost in sales requests from potential customers through their expanded range of novel and innovative solutions for analytical chemistry applications, but it was also able to increase collaboration opportunities with other companies, including an MNC who is interested in licensing their technologies.
A delighted Dr. George Zhang, CEO, ChemoPower Technology, said, “The T-Up programme with IMRE, A*STAR, helped us a lot in developing and commercialising our core technology into a product in the form of licensed software. Georgina always takes proactive steps throughout the programme and contributed significantly towards this.”
For Ms Seah, the stint with industry has been most satisfying. “Working with ChemoPower Technology was an eye-opening experience,” she said. “Apart from exchanging scientific expertise, I was involved first-hand in the company’s daily activities, such as navigating through the process of product development, as well as market penetration. It was a great platform for career development.”
Ms Seah’s work with ChemoPower Technology was recognised at the recent SME Technology and Innovation Day 2018, where she was one of the recipients of the A*STAR T-Up Excellence Awards 2018.
