IMRE signed a Master Research Collaboration Agreement (MRCA) with SCG Chemicals,to set up an Advanced Composite joint laboratory, on 11 January 2018. This joint laboratory aims to leverage both IMRE’s capabilities in developing composite materials and SCG Chemicals’ expertise in polymer manufacturing to develop new materials for potential industry-related applications such as automotive, aerospace and infrastructure. IMRE and SCG Chemicals first embarked on this collaborative journey back in 2011 to develop high-barrier packaging solutions to extend the shelf life of food as part of the Industrial Coating and Packaging Consortium. Currently, IMRE and SCG Chemicals have three other ongoing projects to enhance the performance of commodity plastics. The translation of new technologies into products and applications could create more opportunities for partnerships with local manufacturing enterprises and multinational companies and generate good economic outcomes for Singapore.
