Advanced Sustainable Materials (ASM)

The ASM department focuses on developing sustainable materials and green technologies that can add commercial values for renewable energy solutions and extending the life cycle of waste materials to create a circular economy and reduce their carbon footprint for Singapore. The main research themes include: upcycling of plastic wastes to fuels and fine chemicals; bioplastics for a circular economy; new functional materials from renewable biomass and industrial by-products; green technologies for renewable energy and thermal management. The department also spearheads the utilization of sustainable and/or biodegradable material formulations for key applications in health and consumer care.
