Sustainable Energy Harvesting

This group aim to research on ways to improve waste heat energy harvesting and solid state cooling solutions. We are also actively looking at ways to recycle (upcycle) semiconductor waste from solar cells and other electronic devices into high performance thermoelectrics for cooling and energy harvesting applications. On the upstream level, phonon and phase transition engineering can be explored to enhance the basic material properties, especially on low band gap semiconductors. On the downstream level, we aspire to build prototypes for both cooling and energy harvesting applications.

Capabilities

Sustainable Energy Harvesting
  • Low band gap semiconductor materials solid state synthesis.
  • Carrier concentration, electrical, and thermal measurements.
  • Solid state synthesis and sintering, pelletization.
  • Simple device performance testing.
  • Theoretical estimation/modelling of cooling and energy harvesting performances.
