Course Outline
This course covers the principles of testing high voltage generations and measurements. High voltage phenomena of lightning, partial discharge, dielectric losses, breakdown and discharge, and electrostatic charge accumulation and their respective testing methods will be introduced. Electric field-steering techniques will also be discussed for testing and safety designs. 
This course will be valuable for electrical engineers, electricians, researchers and consultants involved in high voltage design, testing, calibration, operation and system maintenance.

Course Instructors
Dr Jing Tao has worked for 30 years as a lecturer and a researcher in the areas of high voltage technology and electrical metrology. He designed and renovated the standard high voltage laboratory in the National Metrology Centre and established related calibration systems. He patented a novel oil tester calibrator which measures high voltage in restricted spaces. His research interests include insulation design, flashover failure analysis, electrostatic charge control, and low frequency electrical metrology. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

  • Demonstration on primary calibration of liquid flow measurement

  • Demonstration on primary calibration of gas flow measurement


Course Fee & Registration
The course fee is $780.00+GST.

To register for the course, please send the signed registration form to four weeks before the course date. Due to the limited number of places, acceptance of registration will be based on a first-come-first-served basis. All successful registrants will be informed.

Mode of Payment
Payment is required on registration confirmation. Crossed cheques should be made payable to “SCEI-NMC”. Payment can also be made by credit card and NETS.

Refund Policy
If a registrant is unable to attend, another candidate may replace him/her. A 50% refund will be made only for withdrawals received in writing at least five days before the commencement of the course. If a registrant is unable to attend the course due to sickness, medical certificate needs to be submitted to NMC before a refund can be granted. NMC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the course. In the event of cancellation, registration fees will be refunded in full.
