Course Outline

This course covers the fundamental principles of weighing, mass, balance calibration and measurement uncertainty. Practical issues related to the use, maintenance and calibration of balances and the evaluation of measurement uncertainties associated with the evaluation of balance performances and the ISO 17025 compliant way of reporting the calibration results will be covered. Participants will have the opportunity to experience working with actual weights and get hands-on practice on how to calibrate an electronic balance firsthand. This course will be useful for engineers, researchers and consultants involved in precision mass measurement that needs precise and accurate balances to ensure the highest quality products and measurement results.


Course Instructors 

Mr. Lee Shih Mean and Mr. David Lim are, respectively, Senior Metrologist and Senior Technical Executives in mass measurements. Shih Mean and David have many years of experience in the areas of mass and balance calibration. They are responsible for the establishment and maintenance of mass standards in Singapore, and have conducted many training courses for the industry over the years. Shih Mean is a qualified SAC-SINGLAS technical assessor. He has also served as a technical peer reviewer for many overseas national metrology institutes.

Course Fee & Registration

The course fee is $390.00+GST.
To register for the course, please send the signed registration form to two weeks before the course date.

Due to the limited number of places, acceptance of registration will be based on a first-come-first-served basis. All successful registrants will be informed. Payment is required on registration confirmation. Crossed cheques should be made payable to “SCEI-NMC”. Payment can also be made by credit card and NETS. If a registrant is unable to attend, another candidate may replace him/her. A 50% refund will be made only for withdrawals received in writing at least five days before the commencement of the course. NMC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the course. In the event of cancellation, registration fees will be refunded in full.
