Course Outline

This course aims to provide participants with basic metrological concepts and practical knowledge in liquid and gas fluid flow measurement and calibration, general meter types and their applications and the key aspects of flow measurement & calibration techniques.  The course covers:

  • Fluid flow measurement principles
  • Fluid properties & flow phenomena
  • Type of meter & selection (e.g. Turbine meters, Vortex meters, Magnetic meters, Coriolis mass meters, Critical flow, Ultrasonic meters)
  • Installation effects
  • Traceability & calibration
  • Measurement uncertainty
  • Report of measurement & calibration results


Course Instructors 

Mr. Wu Jian is the Head and principal metrologist of the Mechanical Cluster of National Metrology Centre, A*STAR. He has many years’ experiences in establishment of liquid and gas fluid flow standards, and in the calibration, maintenance, laboratory accreditation, consultancy and training on fluid flow measurements. 

Dr Luo Rongmo is a scientist from the Mechanical Cluster of National Metrology Centre, A*STAR. He has good experience in the establishment of liquid and gas fluid flow standards and calibration, computational fluid dynamics, process industry consultancy and training on fluid flow measurements.

  • Affection of viscosity and two phase

Calibration procedure and measurement setup:

  • Traceability
  • Primary Calibration Standards
  • Secondary Calibration Standards
  • Flow meter calibration
  • Uncertainty & report results
  • Discussions with participants on their measurement issues

  • Demonstration on primary calibration of liquid flow measurement
  • Demonstration on primary calibration of gas flow measurement


Course Fee & Registration

The course fee is $780.00+GST.
To register for the course, please send the signed registration form to shirley_tng@nmc.a-star.edu.sg  two weeks before the course date.

Due to the limited number of places, acceptance of registration will be based on a first-come-first-served basis.  All successful registrants will be informed.  Payment is required on registration confirmation.  Crossed cheques should be made payable to “SCEI-NMC”.  Payment can also be made by credit card and NETS.  If a registrant is unable to attend, another candidate may replace him/her.  A 50% refund will be made only for withdrawals received in writing at least five days before the commencement of the course.  NMC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the course.  In the event of cancellation, registration fees will be refunded in full.
