Estimation of Uncertainty in Electrical Measurements

[Course Brochure][Registration Form]

Course Outline

This course reviews the basic steps in evaluating measurement uncertainties in electrical measurements based on the ISO/IEC Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. Emphasis will be given on how to compute Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC) with inclusion of the contribution from the "best existing device" under calibration. Examples will be given to enhance the understanding of uncertainty evaluation steps and to analyse mistakes often encountered in practice.

Course Instructors

Dr Jing Tao has worked for 30 years as a lecturer and a researcher in the areas of high voltage technology and electrical metrology. He designed and renovated the standard high voltage laboratory in the National Metrology Centre and established related calibration systems. He patented a novel oil tester calibrator which measures high voltage in restricted spaces. His research interests include insulation design, flashover failure analysis, electrostatic charge control, and low frequency electrical metrology. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
