Sangyong Jung obtained his Ph.D. degree from Dep. of Physiology and Biophysics, school of medicine, Inha university, South Korea. During his postdoctroal training, he studied on synaptic plasticity at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea (2005) and at Max Planck Institut-Experimental Medizine (MPI-EM), Germany (2009). He studied about physiological functions and ultrastructure in ribbon synapse of sensory organ (inner ear) at Synaptic Nanophysiology, Max Planck Institut-Biochemie (MPI-BPC) and Institute for Auditory Neuroscience (InnerEar Lab), University of Göttingen in Germany (2012). He joined the JCO VIP project as a group leader of Neuromodulation and Neurocircuitriy (NMNC) group, Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (SBIC), A*STAR, and as an Adjunct Assistant Prof. at Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2016.
His projects aim at discovering novel metabolites and neuronal circuitries which regulate feeding behaviors and metabolic inflammations in the brain.
· Mapping neuronal circuits and identifing the novel metabolites which modulate the feeding behaviours
· Discovering the underlying molecular mechanismes which encode feeding behaviors in the hypothalamus or other brain areas.
· Roles of astrocytes and microglia in controlling the feeding behaviors or metabolic inflammation in health and disease.
· Precise spatio-temporal restoration of the hearing impairment via adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene delivery
