Navin Michael has been a Research Fellow in Dr Sendhil Velan’s lab (Growth Development and Metabolism Program) at SICS since June 2012. Prior to that, he worked for a year in the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (SBIC). He obtained a PhD from the School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2012. During his PhD, he worked in the signal processing domain.
At SICS, he focuses on the post-processing and quantitation of 1D and 2D magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) signals. His current work involves the application of MRS for investigating human glucose/lipid metabolism and ectopic fat infiltration in epidemiological studies like GUSTO and in pharmacological interventions in disease states like type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. He is also interested in using MRS to evaluate the fatty acid composition of fat depots, and the on the development of novel MR based markers for non-invasively tracking adipose tissue morphology.
