Senior Research Fellow
Wai Lu-En is a cellular immunologist who is working under Antonio Bertoletti’s lab. She enjoys collaborative research projects that aim to understand the role of the immune system in human diseases, for the development of better therapeutics. Other than her scientific interests, she also enjoy dancing, sports and outdoor activities, although most of her spare time is spent chasing after her toddler.
Her research interests are in understanding the role of the immune microenvironment in disease settings. She has previously studied the role of the immune microenvironment in tumour progression and in solid organ transplantation, primarily using rodent models. She is currently characterizing a humanized mouse model of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection to better understand the changes in the immune system during chronic HBV infection and to develop a model system for testing potential therapies.
