Gerard Wong has a first class honours degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Bioinformatics from The University of Melbourne, Australia. He has significant software engineering and project management experience in the Information Technology and Telecommunications sector. Following his PhD, he spent several years working with world-renowned researchers in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and lipidomics in Melbourne. In 2014, he joined the Systems Biology group in SICS.
His research interests are primarily in the development and application of statistical and computational methods for predictive modelling of disease risk and of patient response to therapy. The aim of this research is to achieve improved health outcomes through facilitating early intervention decision-making for high risk patients and also to inform on the selection of more targeted and personalised treatment for the individual patient.
