Food Structure Lead (Principal Investigator) Posted on: 18 February 2019

Job Description:

The successful candidate will provide overall strategic leadership on the research directions and priorities to achieve the goals of FSENH and establish a flagship programme in Asia. He/ she will see to a closer translation of food science and engineering research to clinical validation and industry applications.

The successful candidate will also design and establish the programme; establish a physical research infrastructure with laboratories; attract, recruit and oversee key scientific personal (principal investigators); define research strategy, approaches for talent development; forge the necessary collaborations with industry and academic partners; and develop the IP and commercialization strategy. In defining the strategy, the key considerations are industry relevance, scientific excellence and building a competitive advantage for the collaborators.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Director of CNRC, Director of Food Nutrition and Consumer Care Cluster (FNCC, A*STAR) and Director of NUS-FST to establish the programme. He will ensure seamless collaboration between A*STAR, NUS-FST and SP-FIRC

The FSENH programme aims to:

i.Strengthen local core competences in food science and engineering

ii.Develop novel technologies in food formulation science and process engineering

iii.Drive research collaborations and technology translation to the industry

iv.Build and cultivate talent to meet the needs of the growing food industry in the region

Three thematic areas of the programme are:

i.Natural food components, functionalities and structure assemblies

ii.Structures design to create foods with unique sensorial and nutritional qualities

iii.Healthy food product and process development coupled with clinical and consumer validation

 

Job Requirements:

  •  A doctorate degree in science and engineering (preferably related to food) from a reputable university
  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Sound research and industry expertise in material engineering and science
  • related to food
  • 5-8years of relevant research experience as a principal investigator or equivalent role; prior experience in cross-disciplinary team management
  • Outstanding track record in industry and/ or academic research
  • Ability to translate research findings to industry and social outcomes
