Industry Seminar and Roundtable Discussion on Advanced Machining

Date: 07 Mar 2013 - 07 Mar 2013

Venue: SIMTech Auditorium, Tower Block, level 3

The seminar on Advanced Machining Technology will take place on Thursday 7 Mar 2013 from 12:30pm to 6pm at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a research institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).

Machining technologies are central to and mother of manufacturing industry. They have been widely applied and adopted in different industrial sectors such as aerospace, marine, oil & gas, automotive, medtech, precision engineering, etc. Advanced machining technologies have been continuously developed to enhance their applicability through machining efficiency improvement and cost reduction. Application of new technologies leads to dramatic machining time reductions that can reach to 70%.

In this seminar, technology trends of advanced machining and their applications will be presented to elaborate productivity improvement. Presentations will feature state-of-the-art automated process planning for 5-axis simultaneous machining, iMachining, machining of exotic materials, machining dynamic characterisation and their applications. The seminar will also cover the key research trends of advanced machining technology focusing on carbon footprint and environment concerns.

SIMTech's initiative and plans for upgrading metal machining of precision industry will be introduced during this seminar. These include a series of Precision Engineering Metal Manufacturing training courses (funded by WDA) as well as Collaborative Industry Projects on Advanced Metal Machining which we intend to launch in April 2013. The event will provide the opportunity to hear from you and collect your invaluable feedback based upon which we would shape the upcoming project scopes.

The seminar will also showcase an exhibition for industry to tap on and develop capabilities for various applications.
