According to a recent worldwide survey of 766 corporate CEOs, 88% of them believed sustainability should be implemented through the supply chain. Sustainable supply chains therefore, are an increasing priority for organisations, both private and public, if they are to create sustainable value for all stakeholders. This workshop will examine a framework for sustainable supply chain management, discuss measurement systems that reinforce how to incorporate triple bottom line achievement into supply chain design and management decisions.

*Supply Chain Design for Sustainability - Requirements for Closed-loop, Multi Life-cycle flow, Coordinating product design and supply chain design, Models for coordinated design and case studies

Dr Fazleena Badurdeen is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and is affiliated to the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing (ISM) at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY, USA). She received her Ph.D. in Integrated Engineering from Ohio University in 2005 and also holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management in Sri Lanka. Dr. Badurdeen leads the Manufacturing Systems and Sustainable Supply Chains Research Group at the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing, whose main research emphasis is in the areas of modeling and optimisation of manufacturing systems, sustainable manufacturing and sustainable supply chain design. Her work has been published in more than 60 research papers in a variety of refereed international journals, national and international conferences and five book chapters.
She has served as an investigator/co-investigator on numerous research projects funded through federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Science Foundation (NSF) as well as private industry which have led to collaborations with companies such as The Boeing Company, General Electric (GE) Aviation, Lexmark International, Toyota (TMMK) and ABB Kuhlman. She is a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) and is as the Immediate Past President of the IIE Lean Systems Division. D. Badurdeen is also a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
