Workshop on Corrosion Performance Evaluation with Field and Lab Testing Protocols
Date: 19 Jun 2012 - 19 Jun 2012
Venue: Training Rooms, Level 3, Tower Block, 71 Nanyang Drive, Singapore 638075
Corrosion costs Singapore more than 4% of GDP. Due to its multidisciplinary nature, corrosion can be related to most industrial sectors. A good understanding of the nature of corrosion together with proper prevention and maintenance practices is imperative to save a significant percentage of corrosion costs . Reliable testing and performance evaluation are crucial, including field testing and laboratory acceleration tests. SIMTech has established essential corrosion test capabilities and traceable protocols which can benefit local industries.
This workshop will highlight the capabilities and discuss how companies can participate and have deeper insight on corrosion testing. The following categories of corrosion tests will be covered :
• Atmospheric Exposure Test Facilities and Capabilities, corresponding to Industrial, Marine and Urban Environments.
• Accelerated Laboratory (Chamber) Tests and Advanced Cyclic Corrosion Tests.
• Standard and Advanced Electrochemical Tests and Research.

Sudesh is a Scientist working in Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), specialised in Corrosion and Electrochemistry. He received his PhD from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National University of Singapore in 2005 and has worked in the same department as a post doctoral research fellow until he joined SIMTech in 2008. Since then Sudesh has focused to develop the corrosion testing and characterisation facilities and capabilities mainly to support the coating development/qualification and cater Singapore industrial needs.
His research interests are Smart self healing coatings for corrosion protection, Atmospheric Corrosion, Advanced in situ scanning techniques for corrosion investigations etc.
Sudesh has published more than 25 journal and conference publications.
Peter Collier graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Physics and a Master’s Degree in Surface Chemistry from the University of Bristol UK in 1983. He has more than 20 years of applied R&D experience in materials and process technologies for functional coatings and thin film devices. He is currently Senior Industry Development Manager with the Surface Finishing Initiative in the Precision Engineering Centre of Innovation at Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech).
