SIMTech Design Seminar

Introduction
This seminar aims to introduce a design programme specially tailored for the Singapore manufacturing industry. Participants will gain a better understanding of how SIMTech Design Programme helps industry move up the value chain by tapping on SIMTech technologies, resources and expertise in product design. Companies selected to take part in the SIMTech Design Programme enjoys special privileges and sponsorship, when realising their product idea by working closely with us.

Highlights of SIMTech Design Programme
- Call for open innovation by offering list of SIMTech technologies for product innovation
- Designated product design "A" team work with companies to oversee the entire product development process for the
  chosen product idea using SIMTech technology
- Assigned full-time research engineer to assist in implementing the new product idea through the following phases

- Phase 1: Basic Product Innovation Training (3 months)
- Phase 2: Attachment to your company, allowing you to understand your needs product design (3 months)
- Phase 3: Prototype Development at SIMTech (6 months)

IP sharing will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis depending on the design idea and chosen technology.

About the Speaker
Philip Delamore is a Senior Research Fellow at the London College where he combines interest in arts, science and tech nology to develop new approaches to design and creativity. His current research involves application of expertise in computer science and material science in design; utilising 3D visualisation, customisation and direct 3D manufacturing. As a director of Digital Studio, Philip integrates 3D CAD and Rapid prototyping into Fashion design environment. Besides lecturing at the University of the Arts London College, Philips also give lecture both within UK as well as internationally, and has presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Royal Institute among the rest. Philips also sits on the Advisory panels for UK university textile and fashion courses, as well as undertaking design consultancy for industry.  

Abstract
Philip will share with us on uptake of 3D Rapid Prototyping technology into the fashion industries and presents a case study in footwear. He will enunciate his insights of how increasing update in digital manufacturing in the industry has allowed for greater flexibility in production of low volume, customised and bespoke products. He will also touch on innovation potential for these technologies to cross domains, and suggests that their creative exploration by designers may be the key to developing new markets opportunities.
