Composite materials have attracted increasing interest in industrial applications due to their high strength and stiffness at low weight. However, their processing and mechanical behaviour are quite different from conventional materials such as polymers or metals. As such, their use is still somewhat limited despite the fact that composites may present economical and ecological advantages to both the manufacturer and the end user. Through this TIP course, the attendees will gain an overview of the field of composites, their properties and processing methods. Having a basic understanding will enable the participants to make an informed decision on the use of composites in their respective fields.
Dr Zhao Jianhong, Ms Ng Feng Lin, Dr Lim Szu Hui, Dr Yu Suzhu, Dr Teo Wern Sze, Dr Martin Landert
The speakers are research scientists and engineers involved in research activities in composites processing at SIMTech. The materials they focus on range from nano to continuous reinforcements, from thermoset to thermoplastic polymers, and from natural to synthetic fibres. They have conducted research and development activities in the areas of liquid composite moulding, modelling, natural fibre reinforced polymers, nanocomposites for automotive applications. Results generated in these projects have been showcased at JEC Show Asia composites exhibition and the building and construction industry’s Build Eco Xpo (BEX Asia) exhibition.
