Thermal management and flow analysis are important points in the maintenance and control all of equipment components to within the allowable temperature limits for the different operating modes of any machine designed. This seminar will share with industry and research community the case studies from SIMTech’s projects pertaining to thermal analysis and process. Participants will gain a better understanding of the use of Solidworks with SolidWorks Flow Simulation to perform thermal and flow analysis from simple “push button” setup and review of FEA results This seminar is co-organised by SEACAD and PE COI at SIMTech.

Dr Kiew Choon Meng received his B.Eng and PhD degrees from National University of Singapore, in 2003 and 2008 respectively. Since graduation, he joined Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology. He is currently an Assistant Research Scientist in Mechatronic Group. His research interests are in Thermal Process Control, Digital Signal Processing and Power Electronics
Mr Rajagopalan Varadarajan comes with over 20 years of specialisation in the CAE industry. He worked as Structural specialist in automotive industry, worked as technical consultant and currently works as Simulation Product Manager with Dassault systems, Singapore. He is a Post Graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technolgy, India
Presentation 1 : Introduction to Thermal Analysis for Thermal Process Application
In designing any thermal process system, it is important to determine the specification of thermal sources and thermal sinks. In this short seminar, a quick and simple method to calculate the necessary information will be presented. In addition to that, a case study of the use of Thermal-Electric Devices (TEDs) for thermal process will be discussed. The strengths and weaknesses of TEDs will be presented too.
Presentation 2 : Thermal and Flow Analysis with SolidWorks Flow Simulation
Products are becoming more and more compact, while the performance of subsystems inside are becoming more and more powerful. Hence,
product design with consideration of optimum flow/thermal management has become very crucial. This presentation will showcase with examples, how a software based approach helps, designers achieve cutting edge designs, upfront during the design stage.
