Technology Lecture on Recent Progress on Silicon-based Hybrid Materials
Date: 01 Jun 2010 - 01 Jun 2010
Venue: SIMTech Auditorium, Level 3, Tower Block
Nanomaterials are presently in great demand with increasing interests and requirements for applications. In this field of research, extensive works, primarily based on organosilicon chemistry, have been devoted to the development of new organic-inorganic materials. This lecture will encompass an overview of the bottom-up synthesis of hybrid precursors by organic and organometallic chemistry process with special focus on the characterisation of structured silicon-based materials, including sol-gel hybrids and their applications for catalyst applications.
About the Speaker
Dr Wong Chi Man is a high profile scientist in the area of organic and organometallic chemistry, materials chemistry. He is responsible for leading a research group in Laboratoire Architectures Moléculaires et Matériaux Nanostructurés (Institute Charles Gerhardt Montpellier UMR CNRS 5253) at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (France). He received his doctorate degree in Chemistry from the University of Montpellier 2 (France) in 1987. After completing his post-doctoral research as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the University of Heidelberg (Germany), he became Associate Professor at the University of Montpellier 2 in 1990. His current research interests include sol-gel chemistry, organic and organometallic chemistry, materials chemistry, and more recently he is involved in organosilicon polymers and silicon carbide. He was Co-chair of the XIVth
International Sol-Gel Conference held in September 2007 and a member of the International Advisory Board Committee of the "International Sol-Gel Conference" and of the "International Symposium on Organosilicon Chemistry" meeting. A member of the National Scientific Committee of the (CNRS) French National Research Council (2000-2003), he holds 3 patents and has co-authored close to a hundred of scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
