About the Speakers
Dr A C Tan obtained a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch and the University of Auckland, Auckland, respectively. Prior to her retirement, she was a Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) and Principal Chemist of Texas Instruments (Singapore) and Micron Semiconductor Asia, and the Chairperson, Technical Council of both companies for more than 10 years. She has published numerous technical papers, two books (on Plating and soldering), one chapter in ASM Handbook (Vol 13C, 2006, Corrosion : Environments and Industries) and has given technical lectures/talks/trainings to the local professional societies and institutions (for example, IEEE Singapore, Singapore Surface Finishing Society, Singapore Polytechnic, Chemistry Department, National University of Singapore) and conducted in-house technical courses. Her areas of interest are in lead finishing processes (soldering and plating), surface techniques (Auger Electron Spectroscopy and XPS/ESCA), Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy, applications of polymeric materials for the assembly of IC devices and corrosion in microelectronics. Dr Tan has also served as an Industrial Advisor to the Materials Engineering School, National University of Singapore for 3 years. She has been actively involved in SEMI Singapore, EPTC ( technical committee) for many years, and is still actively supporting conferences organised by the Singapore Surface Finishing Society. She is currently a free-lance Senior Consultant.

Ms Takako Tokura is Spectroscopy Manager of Customer Support Centre, Shimadzu (Asia Pacific). In her position, she is responsible for supporting the FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometers) in the ASEAN and South Asia region. She has 15 years experience as an Application Specialist in Shimadzu Customer Support Center in Japan and Singapore, specialising in FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer) and more than ten years of providing strong technical support for FTIR and UV/Vis regionally.

Mr Mahendra Chaudhari has been with Shimadzu Asia Pacific since August 1996. He graduated from Mumbai University with BSc (Tech) in Electronics & Computer Engineering. He spent almost 25 years in material testing /evaluation & R&D instruments for service, applications and marketing. He has been working closely in the Nanotechnology field to offer solutions for nano-characterisation.

Mr Tan Teck Beng is Application Specialist for Scientific Instrumentation (XRF, XRD, EPMA, SPM, ESCA) in Shimadzu Asia Pacific. He is actively providing training and developing applications to utilise Shimadzu scientific instruments for failure analysis, R&D, quality assurance and nanotechnology. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with MSc in Materials Science.

Mr Kiyohiro Kohara joined Shimadzu Corporation since 1980. He graduated from Osaka University with BSc in Fundamental Engineering. He was engaged in the system development of EPMA for about 5 years before becoming the Application Specialist for EPMA analysis and applications. He has been supporting EPMA systems for 15 years in the SEA region. Some of his interests includes steel manufacturing, geology, semiconductor & nanotechnology. At present, he specialises in solving problems caused by material failure.
