Date: 18 Nov 2009 - 18 Nov 2009

Venue: Auditorium, SIMTech Tower Block, Level 3

Introduction

This seminar will offer useful insights into Remanufacturing. IE Singapore and SPETA will present their vision and support for the vast remanufacturing business opportunities in Singapore and overseas. The Sustainable Manufacturing Centre (SMC), SIMTech will give an introduction to remanufacturing and its requirements and challenges. Caterpillar, a world leader and pioneer in remanufacturing, will present the company's experiences, cases and potential areas for collaboration with local companies.

Remanufacturing offers great potential for high-value business growth. It leverages on the core capabilities of precision engineering companies, and provide opportunities for engineering services and new business development. The special requirements for transportation and logistics also provide new requirements and opportunities for packaging innovation and services.

Remanufacturing is a process to convert used products to like-new condition. It stands out as a preferred option due to many inherited attributes. It conserves most of the energy used in the manufacturing of the components. In most cases, it is at a much lower cost comparing with manufacturing new components. Moreover, there is an increasing demand for re-manufactured products. Leading companies in jet engines, aerospace, marine, heavy machinery, and copier machines, just to name a few, have already taken remanufacturing as a core competence.
