Seminar on Roll to Roll Manufacturing for Functional Films: Challenges and Opportunities
Date: 22 Jul 2009 - 22 Jul 2009
Venue: SIMTech Auditorium
The growth of emerging applications including photovoltaics, flexible electronics and solid-state lighting is driving the need for large area, cost-effective and green manufacturing technologies such as roll-to-roll manufacturing. This talk will provide an overview of the market trends, technology landscape and manufacturing challenges in functional films including printed batteries, thin-film photovoltaics and light-emitting polymers. Technologies for roll-to-roll manufacturing processes and systems including gravure coating and ink-jet patterning will be described. Recent research achievements in EU-funded projects will also be highlighted.
About the Speaker
Thomas Kolbusch is Managing Director of Solarcoating Machinery GmbH, a company supplying equipment for 3rd generation PV, like polymer solar cells. He is also Vice President of Coatema Coating Machinery GmbH, an equipment manufacturing company for coating and printing solutions located in Dormagen, Germany. He is very active in the field of flexible electronics, photovoltaics, batteries and fuel cells and worked for three years in the board of directors of the KIBZ, a fuel cell network in Baden Württemberg. In North Rhine-Westphalia he is engaged in a working group on Stack Design for fuel cells. He is organiser of the Coatema Coating Symposium, an international coating and printing seminar which takes place in Dormagen since ten years. He is working in several BMBF-funded R&D projects on photovoltaics and flexible electronics and in an EU-project on the same topic.
Thomas Kolbusch studied Business Economics at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and got his degree as business economist in 1997. As post-graduate he worked for 3M, Germany and the alpi GmbH. Since June 2009 he is member of the board of the Organic Electronics Association (oe-a) within VDMA.
