RFID technology is a versatile technology with a myriad of applications opportunities that has the potential to boost innovations in both the public and private sectors. The use of RFID technology presents significant promise in terms of reducing costs, enhancing process innovation, generating greater efficiencies, improving service delivery and bettering public services, among others.

On behalf of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, A*STAR and NRC will be launching the RFID Innovation Platform in 2008. The RFID Innovation Platform is a multi government agency effort to encourage organisations in both public and private sectors to conceptualise and pilot process innovation projects leading to greater cost efficiency, higher productivity and better service standards.

The RFID Innovation Platform aims to stimulate robust engines of growth in the industries through the use of RFID technologies. The Platform will strive towards uplifting the major sectors including retail, tourism, healthcare and logistics, and further strengthening our position as world leaders in these sectors, by enhancing service delivery with greater cost efficiency.

Apart from boosting innovations in both the public and private sectors, the Innovation Platform is positioned to expand the RFID industry cluster by growing existing and spawning new home-grown RFID companies, as well as attracting Multi-National Corporations to base in Singapore.

In addition, the Platform seeks to catalyse further research and development in advanced RFID technologies through collaboration between industry and Singapore National RFID Centre advanced RFID technologies through collaboration between industry and Singapore research institutes and universities.
