Medical Devices: Concept to Market and Beyond

Date: 18 Oct 2007 - 18 Oct 2007

Venue: Auditorium, Level 3, SIMTech Tower Block

The Medical Technology industry in Singapore is an important part of the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) cluster. The types of medical devices manufactured in Singapore range from syringes and catheters, hearing aids and contact lenses, to research instruments & scientific analytical equipment, accounting to approximately a quarter of the BMS manufacturing output, and two-thirds of the BMS manufacturing employment in Singapore. Medical device manufacturers are facing pressure on several fronts: fierce competition among manufacturers often means that the company which gets its product to market first is the winner – but just getting it to the market can take forever, between having to manage a global development process and collecting all the information needed to comply with regulations.

In this seminar, issues like these will be dissected, and the attendees will learn from experts on the regulatory requirements, importance of human factors, materials employed in design and manufacturing for high volume medical devices, managing a global development process, ensuring consistent quality and shortening the cycle times needed to get a product approved and out to market.

Topics covered :

1) Design of User-Centred Medical Devices
2) Materials for Medical Devices
3) Medical Devices from a Surgeon’s Perspective
4) Getting Medical Devices to Market Faster : Regulatory requirements
5) Singapore Medical Technology Manufacturing Industry Landscape
