Research and development efforts of leading automakers have been extensive due to the rapid pace of the automotive industry and increasing demand from consumers for higher quality, comfort and safety, yet without increase in price. To meet rising expectations of customers in the automotive sector, the industry will need to offer technical innovations that will make the vehicles safer and more efficient.
The A*STAR Capabilities in Automotive Research (A*CAR) Programme is an A*STAR initiative to bring together automotive OEMs, suppliers and the R&D community to work hand in hand in addressing key research areas in automotive technology. The consortium leverages on the collective expertise from the Science and Engineering Research Council's (SERC's) seven research institutes to carry out industry-directed research and technology development.
Objective
The SERC A*CAR Programme aims to:
- Engage automotive industry with R&D community to drive innovation
- Carry out basic-directed and applied research work with strong industry participation in the automotive domain
- Promote sharing of resources
- Keep abreast with the technological challenges in advanced automotive technologies
- Form value-chain between automotive OEM, suppliers, system integrator, infrastructure providers and the local supporting industries
- Form an international network with other leading Automotive Consortia
