A*STAR IAIC Management

Dr. Su Yi is the Executive Director of the Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing (IAIC), where he leads the institute’s strategy, capabilities and partnerships across artificial intelligence, high performance computing, and modelling and simulation. He plays a key role in advancing IAIC’s mission to integrate advanced computing, AI and digital research platforms for scientific, industrial and national impact.

He also helps lead national initiatives in advanced computing, including quantum and hybrid computing programmes, and has contributed to strategic platforms that strengthen Singapore’s capabilities in AI, HPC and computational research. His work brings together research and ecosystem partnerships to support translation and national priorities in science and technology.

Prior to this, Dr Su served as Executive Director of A*STAR IHPC, having earlier held the roles of Deputy Executive Director and Director of Strategic Planning & Development. In these positions, he led the institute’s research and organisational development, and drove transformation in research planning, digitalisation, data stewardship and business intelligence. He also held A*STAR-wide leadership roles as Executive Director-in-Charge of the Health & Medical Technology; Artificial Intelligence, Analytics and Informatics, and Social Sciences and Technology Horizontal Technology Coordinating Offices. Earlier in his career, Dr Su was seconded from A*STAR to SMRT Corporation, where he served as Director of the Data Analytics Department and headed the A*STAR-SMRT Urban Mobility Innovation Centre.

Dr. Lou Jing is the Deputy Executive Director (Research) at the Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing (IAIC), A*STAR, where he leads the institute's long-term research and capability development, driving the translation of advanced science and technology into impactful solutions for industry and society.

Trained in physics and computational fluid dynamics, Dr. Lou's expertise spans physics-based modelling and simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), and data-driven AI. Since joining ASTAR in 1999, he has led and contributed to research across diverse domains, including offshore and marine engineering, multiphase flows, urban environmental modelling, microfluidics, and nonlinear hydrodynamics. Prior to ASTAR, he held research appointments at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Germany and NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in the United States. He has authored more than 150 publications in leading journals and international conferences.

A recognised leader in the HPC community, Dr. Lou served as General Co-Chair of the Supercomputing Asia Conference series, leading the successful delivery of major international conferences that brought together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers from over 20 countries. Through these efforts, he strengthened global collaborations and advanced strategic partnerships across the HPC and digital innovation ecosystem.

Beyond his research leadership, Dr. Lou plays a key role in shaping A*STAR's long-term strategy for Data, AI, and Compute, helping define the technological roadmap that supports Singapore's scientific and innovation ambitions. His contributions have been recognised through numerous prestigious awards, including the Firefly Award from Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Minister's R&D Merit Award from the Ministry of National Development, the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, and the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award.

Dr. Lou is passionate about harnessing AI, digital technologies, and high-performance computing to address complex challenges in manufacturing, sustainability, healthcare, and national resilience. Under his leadership, IAIC continues to strengthen Singapore's capabilities in advanced computing and AI, accelerating innovation and digital transformation across the nation.

Dr. Sun Sumei is the Deputy Executive Director of A*STAR Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing (A*STAR IAIC), and A*STAR’s Coordinating Executive Director for Hub of the Future (HOTF). She holds a joint appointment with the Singapore Institute of Technology, and an adjunct appointment with the National University of Singapore, both as a full professor. 

With strong passion in industry-relevant research and technology creation, Sumei has authored and co-authored more than 400 technical papers. She is the inventor/co-inventor of over thirty patented technologies, with most of them licensed to industry.  Sumei’s current research interests include next-generation communications, industrial internet of things, integrated sensing-communications-computing-control for connected and embodied intelligence, applied artificial intelligence, and next-generation transportation systems.

Sumei is a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore (SAEng), the IEEE, AI Industry Alliance (AIIA), and Asia-Pacific AI Association (AAIA). She’s recipient of the IEEE ComSoc Donald W. McLellan Meritorious Service Award 2024, IEEE ComSoc Inaugural Asia Pacific Women in Communications Engineering Outstanding Achievement Award (2024), 2023 IEEE VTS Women’s Distinguished Career Award, and Singapore National Day 2022 Public Administration Medal (Bronze).

Mr Yeoh Wooi Gan is the Deputy Executive Director at the A*STAR Institute of Advanced Intelligence & Computing (A*STAR IAIC). Prior to this, he served as Deputy Executive Director at the A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research (A*STAR I²R), where he co-drove organisational strategy, operations, and industry engagement to translate research into impactful innovations. He also coordinated the execution of key functions such as resource management, industry development, strategic transformation, and special projects, in addition to his direct responsibilities overseeing core enabling functions including project management, intellectual property, contract management, risk management, and research administration.

Prior to joining I²R in 2017, Mr Yeoh held leadership roles at the A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (IME), including Director of Industry Development and Director of Project Office. There, he led institute-wide KPI performance and consistently delivered strong outcomes in industry engagement thru collaborations, consortia and joint labs, scientific publications, and IP management. He was also responsible for establishing project management capabilities that enabled the delivery of outcomes and value. His responsibilities further included quality management (ISO9001 and ISO13485), as well as governance in areas such as confidentiality and export control.

Earlier in his career, he headed large R&D teams in integrated circuits and MEMS-based Sensors and Actuators design, contributing to advancements particularly in wireless communications and RFID systems. His work led to several world-first developments, industry adoption, and the creation of a deep-tech spin-off company.

Mr Yeoh has authored or co-authored more than 35 international scientific publications and holds multiple patents in RF and microelectronics technologies. He has also contributed significantly to the professional community, serving as Chairman of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (Singapore Chapter) and taking on leadership roles in international conferences and national initiatives.

In recognition of his contributions, Mr Yeoh has received the A*STAR Borderless Award.  He is also a recipient of Singapore’s National Day Awards, namely the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2019 and the Long Service Medal in 2021.

He holds a Master of Engineering (Electrical) from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics from Nanyang Technological University.

Mr Yeoh remains deeply committed to bridging research and industry, fostering innovation, and enabling the translation of technology into economic and societal impact.
