    A*STAR Scholarship Awards Ceremony 2018

Minister Ong Ye Kung- the Guest-of-Honour at the A*STAR Scholarship Awards Ceremony 2018- poses with the new batch of PhD and postdoc A*STAR scholars- alongside Chairman A*STAR Mr Lim Chuan Poh- MD A*STAR Dr Raj Thampuran- and Executive Director of the A*STAR Graduate Academy (A*GA) Professor Ng Huck Hui

On 24 July 2018- 112 new A*STAR scholars received their awards at A*STAR’s annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony- graced by Minister for Education- Mr Ong Ye Kung. This year sees the highest number of A*STAR scholarships being awarded since 2015- reflecting the government’s commitment to nurturing a steady pipeline of STEM talent to steer Singapore’s R&D efforts.

In his speech- Minister Ong traced the history of Singapore’s decades of investment in science and technology- and noted that the government’s efforts are finally paying off with the growth of new industries- local companies making their mark overseas- and local university rankings on the rise. Minister Ong also encouraged the scholars in the audience to embrace a multidisciplinary education in order to stay creative and innovative- and to be open to the opportunities afforded by A*STAR scholarships.
