Celebrating Postdocs at A*STAR IMCB’s Inaugural Symposium
The organising committee of A*STAR IMCB’s inaugural Postdoctoral Symposium, alongside our Executive Director (far right), celebrating the success of the event.
On 19 September 2025, A*STAR IMCB’s Postdoctoral Society IMPACT hosted the institute’s first ever Postdoctoral Symposium at the Infuse Theatre, Connexis South. The event welcomed participants from across BMRC and featured a full day of science, discussions, and networking.
In her opening address, IMCB’s Executive Director A/Prof Su Xinyi highlighted the vital role of postdoctoral fellows, calling them “the unsung heroes of research” and likening them to the “nerves in the body”. Just as nerves connect different parts of a living system, postdocs link across the A*STAR ecosystem, transmitting ideas, coordinating experiments, mentoring students, and keeping projects moving forward. She also noted that when challenges arise, postdocs are often the “reflexes” of research, the first to respond, adapt, and sustain the momentum of discovery.

The symposium featured:
• Flash talks and posters showcasing cutting edge research, from cancer signalling to regenerative medicine
• A panel discussion on grant funding From Bench to Bank: Winning Grants where postdocs and PIs shared experiences and practical tips
• Talks by IMCB Fellows (Class of 2025) spotlighting the next generation of scientific leaders
• Networking sessions, including a lunch poster session, a prize presentation, and a closing wine and cheese gathering
IMCB thanks all speakers, panellists, and participants for making the day a success, and especially the IMPACT committee for their hard work in bringing this milestone event to life.
