Net Zero Manufacturing

As economies like Singapore transit towards net zero emissions, it is imperative for the manufacturing industry to adopt more sustainable production methods. This involves implementing smart sustainability solutions to understand the environmental and business impact of manufacturing decisions, designing decarbonised manufacturing processes through R&D, and moving towards a circular economy through remanufacturing solutions.

EV Battery Remanufacturing

With the electrification of transportation, retired electric vehicle (EV) batteries are expected to pile up in the near future, and there is an increasing need for effective solutions to manage them.

In response to this, A*STAR is working with our partners to build a circular economy for batteries, through the development of key remanufacturing processes and systems solutions such as battery disassembly, testing, rejuvenation, and reassembly, to give retired batteries a second life.

EV Battery Testing and Disassembly Line

A*STAR’s Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) and McKinsey & Company collaborated to build an EV battery testing and disassembly line, showcasing key technologies and concepts that can be used for handling retired EV batteries. Leveraging Industry 4.0 technologies such as automation, robotics, intelligent vision inspections, and diagnostics, the platform demonstrates how large volumes of EV battery packs can potentially be disassembled safely and efficiently.
