On 29 July 2019- A*STAR welcomed our latest cohort of scholars at the annual scholarships award ceremony. Minister for Trade & Industry- Mr Chan Chun Sing- presented the awards for the scholarships- including the A*STAR Computing and Information Science Scholarship (ACIS). Launched last year- the latest A*STAR scholarship provides the opportunity to pursue a PhD in AI and Computer Science- to meet Singapore’s growing demand for talent in the computing field.

At the event- Minister Chan outlined Singapore’s talent strategy- stressing the importance of Singapore continuing to invest in the support and training of local talent- welcoming global talent to work alongside Singaporeans- remaining well connected- and attracting overseas citizens and regional talent here.

Through these scholarships- A*STAR continues to contribute to Singapore’s Science and Technology talent base- nurturing a pipeline of around 1-600 Singaporean PhD talent through various scholarship schemes. More than 850 scholars have completed their PhD/postdoctoral training and are now actively contributing to Singapore’s Research- Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) ecosystem.
