Tackling the global plastic waste issue by optimising upcycling is A*STAR’s Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²), which has pioneered a novel technology that converts plastic waste into valuable materials more efficiently than existing methods.

Using a catalyst and an inert gas as the carrier, the technology maximises plastic waste pyrolysis by transforming different types of plastic waste into 85% hydrogen (H2) and 15% carbon nanotubes (CNTs), both of which can be reused for other purposes.

Capitalising on the Internet of Things (IoT), Aprisium offers an innovative measurement and monitoring device that addresses the global issue of environmental contamination. With accurate and real-time measurements, the device detects potential pollution sources in liquids, semi-solids and solids as well as empowers users to take proactive measures to mitigate the contamination impact. Having successfully demonstrated the device’s proof-of-concept across the wastewater, food safety and incinerated waste sectors, Aprisium is seeing its technology being adopted commercially in global MNCs’ data centres and wastewater recycling.
