Understand Nature’s Complexity: 3D Whole Tissue Imaging with the UltraMicroscope Platform
Visualising biology like never before – In 3D, intact, and in-depth
Visualising biology in three dimensions is essential to understand how tissues and organs work, but imaging intact samples at high resolution has been a long-standing challenge. Traditional microscopes often cannot deliver the clarity or depth needed for meaningful discoveries.
The A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network (A*STAR SIgN)–Miltenyi Biotec Center of Excellence is addressing this challenge by combining A*STAR SIgN’s advanced tissue clearing techniques with Miltenyi Biotec’s UltraMicroscope Blaze™, a state of-the-art light sheet fluorescence microscope. This technology illuminates samples with a thin sheet of light and captures images plane by plane, minimising photodamage and enabling rapid, high resolution 3D reconstruction of whole specimens.
The system opens new possibilities across life sciences, enabling discoveries in areas such as brain research, disease modelling, and drug development. By making 3D imaging faster and more accessible, it helps research teams gain deeper insights into the complexity of biological systems.
Through this collaboration, advanced imaging capabilities are now more widely available to researchers in the region, enabling new discoveries in spatial biology and biomedical research.
PREPARE: Strengthening Readiness for the Future of Disease Surveillance

Building readiness today for the outbreaks of tomorrow
PREPARE is Singapore’s first near real-time national disease surveillance platform, integrating de-identified data from all 10 public hospitals with daily updates. Developed by A*STAR’s Bioinformatics Institute with the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, it provides a clear, timely picture of disease trends and severity nationwide.
Through secure dashboards and customised reporting, PREPARE allows health authorities to monitor indicators such as Intensive Care Unit admissions and oxygen use, supporting earlier and more effective action. From guiding hospital protocols to shaping national policies, the platform ensures responses are informed by the latest clinical data.
PREPARE is also being integrated with the Ministry of Health Trust for deeper analytics and expanded to regional partners in Southeast Asia, contributing to collective readiness against cross-border threats. By turning complex hospital data into timely insights, PREPARE helps doctors, policymakers and communities act faster and stay better prepared for future outbreaks.
Universal Health: Turning Everyday Moments into Mental Health Insights

Science-based screening powered by face, voice and behaviour data
Around the world, millions live with mental health conditions that go undiagnosed and untreated. Universal Health is working to change this with W3LL, a platform that transforms how mental wellbeing is screened and monitored.
Using just a 60-second face and voice scan, W3LL can screen for signs of stress, anxiety and depression in a simple, non-invasive way. The system is supported by smartphone apps for continuous monitoring, clinician dashboards for personalised care, and W3LL Data-as-a-Service, which provides anonymised reporting tools for governments and employers.
Developed through collaboration with A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research, W3LL builds on years of research to bring frictionless, clinically validated mental health screening into everyday life. Validated against established clinical scales, it delivers objective measures in a field that has long relied on subjective self-reporting.
By offering accessible triage and data-driven insights, W3LL helps reduce stigma, enables earlier interventions and supports population-level strategies for mental wellbeing. Universal Health’s vision is to make mental health assessment as routine, objective and scalable as a physical health check-up, ensuring more people get the support they need, when they need it.
