MedTech Innovation Development and Acceleration Scheme in Diagnostic and Digital Health – MIDAS (Dx)

Accelerating Early-Stage Innovation for Real World Translation

What is MIDAS (Dx)?

The MedTech Innovation Development and Acceleration Scheme in diagnostic and digital health (MIDAS (Dx)) is an upstream funding scheme designed to seed and de-risk high quality early-stage (TRL 2 – 3) innovation. MIDAS (Dx) supports researchers and clinicians in translating strong science into clinically relevant, market-driven projects that are positioned for downstream productization and adoption.

Why MIDAS (Dx)?

Despite strong research and clinical insight, many promising diagnostic and digital health concepts face a gap at the earliest stages of translation—where uncertainty around feasibility, clinical utility, regulation, and adoption limits progress and investability.

MIDAS (Dx) addresses this gap by embedding industry‑oriented review, active project stewardship, and productization discipline from the outset, enabling teams to generate credible proof‑of‑concepts evidence relevant to real clinical and care settings.

What MIDAS (Dx) Supports

MIDAS (Dx) supports needs-driven, early stage (TRL 2–3) innovation in diagnostics and digital health for broad range of diseases, where targeted de-risking can enable credible pathways to downstream clinical adoption and product development.

For the grant call #1, proposals are encouraged to address priorities in neurodegenerative challenges, while the scheme is designed to support similar unmet needs across other disease areas over time.

MIDAS (Dx) grant call #1 is intended to support projects in areas such as:

  • Early cognitive screening technologies for primary and community care, enabling accessible and scalable tools for earlier detection in non-specialist settings.
  • Non-invasive biomarkers and multimodal diagnostics, advancing biomarker discovery and integrated diagnostic approaches that reduce reliance on invasive or costly methods.
  • Disease stratification and therapy selection tools, supporting improved patient segmentation, risk profiling, and treatment decision-making.
  • Clinical workflow-integrated technologies, designed to fit seamlessly into existing care pathways across primary, specialist, and community settings.
  • Longitudinal monitoring technologies for real-world care, enabling continuous tracking of disease progression and treatment response beyond episodic clinical visits.

Priority will be given to projects that:

  • Involve end-user participation, (e.g. clinicians) in problem definition or development
  • Bring together a multidisciplinary team (e.g. clinical, engineering, and scientific expertise).
  • Demonstrate a plausible plan for downstream development (e.g. industry partnership, follow-on funding, regulatory pathway).
  • Address healthcare system priorities (e.g. earlier diagnosis, improved triage, better targeting, or reduced cost of care).
  • Enable scalable or reuseable platforms that can support multiple future products or indications.

About the Grant and Who Should Apply

MIDAS (Dx) is an open, rolling grant call (applications accepted year round). The scheme supports earlystage diagnostics and digital health projects with funding of up to S$0.5 million per project (inclusive of indirect costs), for a project duration of 12 – 18 months.

The call is intended for Singapore-based public sector researchers and clinicians developing early‑stage innovations and are keen to translate their work beyond proof‑of‑science towards real‑world clinical and healthcare impact. Projects should demonstrate a clear problem focus, feasibility at TRL 2 – 3, and potential for downstream progression within Singapore’s diagnostics and digital health ecosystem.

Collaboration with clinical and industry partners is strongly encouraged, in accordance with grant terms and condition[1](e.g. intellectual property and funding-share provisions).

Eligibility: In line with the prevailing grant Terms & Conditions, the Lead Investigator (LI) and all Co‑Investigators must meet the following criteria:

  1. Hold a primary appointment at a Singapore publicly funded research institution or Institute of Higher Learning (IHL);
  2. Lead or be part of a laboratory or research programme conducting research in Singapore;
  3. Have a demonstrable track record of research leadership, e.g. coordinating research activities, mentoring teams, and delivering high-quality outcomes.

MIDAS (Dx) welcomes collaborative project teams that bring together complementary expertise across research, clinical, and translational domains, in support of stronger and more impactful early‑stage innovation.

How to Apply

Applicant should use the latest version of application package available for download on this website, which includes:

  • Proposal Application Form
  • Proposal Budget Sheet
  • Grant Guidelines
  • Grant Terms and Conditions

Please register your application. All applications must be completed and include all necessary supporting documentation submitted via email to MIDAS@dxdhub.sg. Please ensure that all application materials are compiled and included in a single compressed (zipped) folder and labelled with auto-generated application ID (e.g. MIDASYYMMDDxxxx), with each document submitted in the following formats:

  • Proposal application form - Ms Word format
  • Proposal budget sheet - Ms Excel format
  • HI's Director of Research (DOR) endorsement - PDF format

Proposal Requirements

Proposals should clearly articulate the project rationale, milestones, and deliverables, demonstrating early-stage feasibility and relevance to a clearly defined clinical or healthcare needs. Where appropriate, collaboration with industry partners (and other stakeholders) is encouraged to strengthen problem framing, translational considerations, and alignment with real‑world needs.

Applicants must comply with all prevailing grant terms and conditions and applicable regulatory requirements. All research activities should be conducted in accordance with the National Intellectual Property (IP) Protocol, ensuring responsible management and stewardship of IP arising from publicly funded research.

Funding decisions (including scope and quantum of support), will be made based on the proposal’s merit, alignment with scheme objectives, and planned deliverables of the proposed work, in accordance with the objectives of the MIDAS (Dx) scheme.
