10 March 2022: Japanese heavy industry manufacturer IHI Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with A*STAR’s Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE2) on 10 March 2022 to launch a joint R&D centre.

Named the IHI-ISCE2 Joint Sustainable Innovation Centre, it aims to accelerate joint development in decarbonisation projects such as methanation, lower olefin production, or sustainable aviation fuel. The joint centre is planned to become a hub for collaborative and co-creation research as well as co-commercialisation with potential partners worldwide.

A*STAR and IHI first signed a Master Research Collaboration Agreement in 2014, and the partnership has grown from strength to strength since then, with significant milestones achieved such as IHI’s 2021 delivery of its first commercial methanation unit, jointly developed with ISCE2, to the Japanese MNC Asahi Group, and now the MoU for the IHI-ISCE2 Joint Sustainable Innovation Centre.
