Research Internship Award

A*STAR Research Internship Award

The A*STAR Research Internship Award (ARIA) provides undergraduates an exciting opportunity to sharpen your research skills and discover your passion in scientific research.

Application Deadline: ARIA applications open in late June and late November. You may submit as early as 6 months before your school internship portal application window opens.

Singaporeans are welcome to apply.

A*STAR Youth Researcher Awards

A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Upper Secondary)

The A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Upper Secondary) is open to outstanding Singaporean Secondary 3/4 students who show mastery in science and mathematics, with strong research potential.

Application Deadline: Applications are coordinated through the MOE Science Mentorship Programme (SMP) annually.

Open to Singaporeans.

A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Junior College)

The A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Junior College) is open to Singaporean JC 1/IP Year 5 students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance in Science and Mathematics and with a keen interest in scientific research.

Application Deadline: Schools are invited to nominate suitable candidates annually.

Open to Singaporeans.

A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Polytechnic)

The A*STAR Youth Researcher Award (Polytechnic) is open to outstanding Singaporean Year 2 and 3 polytechnic students who demonstrate strong aptitude and interest in scientific research.

Application Deadline: Polytechnics are invited to nominate suitable candidates annually.

Open to Singaporeans.

Research Attachments

H3 Research Attachment Programme 

Junior College students participating in the programme will carry out an investigative study in science or engineering under the supervision of experienced research scientists.

A*STAR - MOE Attachment

Held annually during the year-end school holidays, each JC participant will be attached to a researcher in one of the A*STAR Research Institutes for a period of 5 weeks.

Research Attachments at A*STAR Research Institutes

A*STAR Research Institutes conduct multidisciplinary research and hosts outreach programmes for students. Participants experience first-hand research and work alongside world-class researchers.

Application Deadline: Applications are open all year-round

Singaporeans and international applicants are welcome to apply. Minimum duration of the attachment is 2 months

Our Scholar & Awardees

While having prior research experience helps to boost your application, it is not mandatory. A*STAR will make a holistic assessment of each application and take into consideration other factors such your achievements in science/maths related competitions and CCAs.  

During the PhD studies, A*STAR scholars receive competitive monthly allowance besides full sponsorship of the tuition fees.  Please refer to the coverage section of the respective scholarship pages for further details. 

Yes, you may apply with your school preliminary results. Please send in your final results as soon as you receive it. 

No, you may apply for the scholarship even if you have not secured admission to any overseas university yet 

In addition to academic excellence and a passion in science, we are looking for people who are committed to a research or research-related career in Singapore.  A*STAR is making a significant investment in each scholar and the aim is for every scholar to be part of Singapore's Research, Innovation and Enterprise ecosystem. 

For overseas scholarships students will have to serve a bond from 2-6 years.
