Overview

The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) promotes public sector research and development in the physical sciences and engineering. At SERC, we:

  • support world-class research in A*STAR institutes in a wide range of fields including communications, data storage, materials, chemicals, computational sciences, microelectronics, advanced manufacturing and metrology.
  • plan and actively promote research in strategic areas to encourage greater multidisciplinary research and collaborations across industries, institutes and sectors to create the knowledge and intellectual property that will drive the development of knowledge-intensive industries.
  • cultivate and engage an extensive network of industry partners via various funding schemes and attachment programmes to facilitate a seamless flow of technologies from conception to commercialisation.
  • identify and nurture talented scientists and engineers to provide a ready pipeline of talent to academic institutions and partners.

SERC manages the following Research Entities which carry out a spectrum of R&D activities, ranging across knowledge creation, enabling capabilities, large scale programmes, and industry-oriented activities.

National Platforms:

  1. National Robotics Research and Development Programme Office
  2. National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC)
  3. Singapore-Stanford Biodesign Programme (SSB)
  4. Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore Ltd (TCOMS)

*National platforms are facilities and expertise hosted and managed by A*STAR but funded nationally or by multiple public stakeholders and serve specific national needs.

Research Institutes and Centres:

  1. Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC)
  2. Experimental Power Grid Centre (EPGC)
  3. Institute of Chemical and Engineering Services (ICES)
  4. Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC)
  5. Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R)
  6. Institute of Microelectronics (IME)
  7. Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE)
  8. National Metrology Centre (NMC)
  9. Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech)

Future of Manufacturing

The Future of Manufacturing (FoM) Singapore is a series of industry events related to advanced manufacturing. The 3 key thrusts of A*STAR’s FoM Initiative are the public-private partnership platforms of Tech Access, Tech Depot and Model Factories, that aim to drive technology innovation, knowledge transfer and adoption across the manufacturing industry.
