Best Application Paper Award

Congratulations to the team of researchers from A*STAR on being awarded the Best Application Paper Award at the 20th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots (UR 2023). UR 2023 is a notable mid-size robotics conference that brings together researchers who envision a future where robots become ubiquitous in our daily lives and are key in connecting and empowering humans.

The team’s paper titled “Good Time to Ask: A Learning Framework for Asking for Help in Embodied Visual Navigation” was recognised for its technical significance to the realm of robotics. Their work presents a learning framework that enables an agent to actively ask for help in embodied visual navigation tasks. With the framework, agents could learn to ask for human assistance in an effective and non-disruptive manner, while remaining robust even when feedback is not available.

The researchers contributing to this research include:
  • Cheston Tan, CFAR/IHPC and A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R)
  • Samson Yu, CFAR/IHPC (former staff)
  • Jenny Zhang, A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) (former staff)
