Professor Ong Yew Soon gave a narration on the ‘Scientific Discovery Made Easier with Generative AI’ video created by students from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), under the mentorship of scientists from A*STAR & NTU.

First launched by IEEE in 2023, IEEE CAI 2024 seek to showcase the latest developments in AI and key AI verticals impacting industrial technology applications and innovations, which include:

  • AI and Education
  • AI and Sustainability
  • AI in Healthcare and Life Science
  • AI in Metaverse
  • AI in Multi-agents and Robotic Systems
  • Foundation Models and Generative AI
  • Industrial AI
  • Resilient and Safe AI
  • Societal Implications of AI
The conference was supported by co-sponsors including IEEE Computing Intelligence Society, IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society and IEEE Signal Processing Society.

Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, Permanent Secretary at the National Research and Development delivered the opening address as a Guest of Honour. He highlighted Singapore’s strong commitment to global AI collaboration, mentioning initiatives such as (i) a new funding programme by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to catalyse, support and drive the use of AI to transform and accelerate scientific discoveries and innovations, and (ii) the Maritime AI Research Programme, which focuses on AI solutions for near-collision detection, predictive maintenance, and energy consumption prediction, working closely with industry partners such as PSA Marine, and with strong support from the Maritime Port Authority (MPA).
