Best Paper Runner-Up Award at DASFAA 2024
Congratulations to the team from A*STAR's Centre for Frontier AI Research (CFAR) and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) on being awarded the Best Paper Runner-up Award at the 2024 International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications (DASFAA). The team’s paper titled “Flexible Contract Correlation Learning on Spatio-Temporal Trajectories” was recognised for addressing a critical challenge in trajectory contact analysis, an area that is gaining traction due to its relevance in diverse applications such as urban mobility, public health, and logistics.
Traditional methods for analysing contacts between moving objects focus on contact searches based on spatial proximity at specific points in time, often requiring precise data with high sampling rates and aligned timestamps. Recognising these limitations, the team developed a novel Spatio-Temporal Trajectory Contact Network (ST-TCN), a continuous evaluation framework for spatio-temporal contact between trajectories.
The ST-TCN utilises a contact attention module to assign pointwise contact weights and a soft selection module to identify potential contact areas, deriving contact scores from trajectory embeddings. Experimental results on large-scale, real-world datasets reveal that ST-TCN not only surpasses existing baseline models in accuracy but also significantly enhances processing efficiency, minimising both runtime and GPU memory usage.
These advancements underscore the transformative potential of trajectory contact correlation learning, marking a substantial improvement in both the accuracy and efficiency of spatio-temporal analyses.
