ExxonMobil-NTU-A*STAR Corporate Lab – Advancing Low-Carbon Solutions

The ExxonMobil-NTU-A*STAR Corporate Lab, a five-year IAF-ICP initiative, focuses on developing innovative low-carbon solutions. As the first corporate lab established by an energy major in Singapore, it aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. The lab encompasses five key programs, with A*STAR leading two critical initiatives:

1. Transforming Methane into Low-Carbon Hydrogen and Solid Carbon Materials
2. Developing Efficient Carbon Capture and Carbonation Technology for Industry By-Products

These programs are pivotal to advancing Singapore's National Hydrogen Strategy and support the greening of Jurong Island, a key industrial hub.

The objectives

Methane Emissions and Carbon Management

Methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and industrial CO2 emissions pose significant environmental challenges

Decarbonising Industries

Existing methods for hydrogen production and carbon management are energy-intensive and costly
The Corporate Lab aims to develop cost-effective, scalable solutions for producing turquoise hydrogen and utilising captured CO2 in Singapore's built environment sector.

The impact

The ExxonMobil-NTU-A*STAR Corporate Lab supports Singapore’s efforts to become a global leader in low-carbon technologies. By advancing hydrogen technology and carbon capture, the lab contributes to reducing industrial emissions and supports the nation's long-term sustainability goals. These innovations are expected to have a transformative impact on industries, promoting a greener, more resilient economy.
