Freight Management

In 2022, URA and A*STAR developed an AI simulator designed to assess logistics operations and support future freight management strategies. Building on this foundation, Phase 2 of the project focuses on enhancing the Freight Trip Generation (FTG) model with AI-driven causal inference analysis, allowing for more detailed trip predictions across diverse business sectors and scales.

This tool offers valuable insights for URA’s urban planning, including decisions on logistics hub locations and impact assessments and complements LTA’s Strategic Transport Model in broader land transport planning.

The objectives

Optimise Freight Management Strategies

Use AI simulation to refine logistics operations and plan for efficient freight movement

Support Urban Planning Decisions

Provide predictive insights to assist in logistics hub siting and infrastructure impact analysis

The impact

The AI-based freight management tool developed by URA and A*STAR is set to improve logistics planning and urban infrastructure decisions. This tool enables detailed freight predictions and supports data-driven urban and transport planning, creating a foundation for future-ready logistics solutions.
