Capacity Estimation Tool

With the large number of ingoing and outgoing flights and busy aerodromes, the Terminal Manoeuvring Area (TMA) is often congested. To ensure smooth traffic flow, air traffic planners require tools providing practical capacity estimates for pre-tactical decision-making to optimise resource utilisation.

In collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) is developing a Capacity Estimation Tool to furnish air traffic planners with accurate capacity estimations.

This AI-enabled air traffic management tool takes into consideration the operational constraints, such as runway operating mode and direction, weather within TMA, separation requirements from the airspace as well as traffic mix and the air traffic controller’s workload.

With this Capacity Estimation Model Tool, air traffic planners can take a strategic approach in air traffic management decision-making to bolster safety, efficiency, and optimise both Terminal Maneuvering Area (TMA) and runway utilisation.

Example of the tool and indicators to simulate the required scenarios and generate predictions.

Key Features:

• Users can select indicators to simulate the required scenarios and generate predictions
• Addresses uncertainties and optimises support for aircraft operations
• Accurate capacity estimations
• Assist in air traffic planners for accurate planning
