Mencast and A*STAR have developed advanced capabilities in marine propeller design and manufacturing through their joint lab. By combining AI-driven optimisation algorithms with a design database, Mencast can model and test blade performance virtually before production, improving accuracy and reducing costs. Hybrid additive manufacturing methods were also introduced to replace traditional casting, enabling more complex blade geometries and faster prototyping. These innovations have resulted in propeller blades that deliver higher thrust efficiency, lower fuel consumption and greater customisation, enhancing Mencast’s global competitiveness in the marine sector.
Abrasive Engineering (AE), in partnership with A*STAR, has developed next-generation solutions for surface treatment, including the world’s first microwave media dosing unit and an automated sandblasting system for the marine industry. The microwave dosing unit delivers precise and consistent flow control in shot peening, improving quality and productivity across aerospace, automotive and heavy machinery applications. The automated sandblasting system integrates robotics and computational algorithms to raise throughput and productivity while enhancing safety for operators. These innovations have translated into market-ready smart peening valves that strengthen AE’s competitiveness and expand its global reach.

Coca-Cola Singapore partnered with A*STAR to modernise its manufacturing operations and was recognised as a World Economic Forum Global Lighthouse for digital transformation. Two technologies were co-developed: a dynamic production scheduling platform and a vision-powered robotic system. These solutions improved labour productivity and throughput while creating safer and higher-value roles for the workforce. The technologies also serve as scalable models for adoption in Coca-Cola plants worldwide.
