Our Food, Nutrition, & Human Potential industry cluster leverages A*STAR technologies, capabilities and biodata, including life course studies to advance health, human potential and well-being.

Our mission is to optimise health and well-being across the life course focusing on the Asian phenotype and contribute towards building human capital and potential. By joining forces with industry, academic and public cluster partners, we seek to tackle global food, nutritional and health challenges to improve health and contribute towards quality longevity (adding years and quality to life)

Enhancing productivity, resilience and sustainability goals for the food manufacturing and services cluster

Through advanced manufacturing, robotics, automation and advanced AI and digital twin capabilities, we aim to support our industry partners in their food manufacturing processes by optimising their current operations and enhancing productivity of the workers.

Through the cutting-edge technologies, we hope to propel Singapore as a leading F&B robotics and automation hub in the near future.

SUSTAINABLE VALUE-ADDED INGREDIENTS AND FUTURE FOODS INNOVATION

We identify and develop value added ingredients (e.g. bioactive, food and consumer care), leverage on synthetic biology and re-invent food design (e.g. food chemistry and processing) to contribute to heathy, nutritious and sustainable food solutions and address consumer needs and preferences and promote sustainability in food production to reduce environmental impact to support a sustainable future.

We are working on developing innovative, cost effective and sustainable future foods including plant-based, microbial and cultivated meat solutions.

OPTIMISE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING IN ASIAN PHENOTYPE

Our holistic approach is focussed on optimising health and well-being through food and diet. This includes designing tasty and nutritious future foods for the Asian palate. Our research delves into the nutritional value of foods and their effects on health as well as food design based on nutrition and Asian consumer preference. By examining how diet influences well-being, we aim to develop precision nutrition solutions to modulate gut microbiome via diets and supplements, support informed dietary choices and improve public health outcomes.

HARNESS LIFE COURSE STUDIES AND BIODATA

We leverage data analytics to tap on life course studies (e.g. Growing up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes [GUSTO] birth cohort studies) to uncover valuable insights into development and health outcomes. We partner with industry partners, public agencies, academic and the community to develop precision nutrition solutions to improve health and well-being across the life stages.

ROBOTICS, AUTOMATION AND SUPPLY CHAIN

The power of AI is harnessed to optimise manufacturing processes and streamline supply chain operations, ensuring maximum efficiency and responsiveness to market demands while bolstering supply chain resilience. From network design to real-time optimisation, the approach integrates advanced technologies to fortify capabilities in adapting to unforeseen disruptions and maintaining continuous operations.
