I²R Research Team

Dr Jamie Ng is a Senior Scientist and the Head of the Advanced & Sustainable Manufacturing (ASM) Division at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR, Singapore. She oversees projects relating to AI, analytics, automation, connectivity and cybersecurity in manufacturing and aerospace. This includes predictive maintenance, IIOT for Industry 4.0, image processing for defect identification, blockchain and robotics. She is also a programme lead for the Smart Automated Aircraft Visual Inspection System (SAAVIS) programme looking into automation of defect detection in large structures and surface, such as aircrafts. Concurrently, she leads the Human Factors and Visual Interface group at I2R’s Visual Intelligence (VI) department. Since 2016, she and her team has been working on AI, Augmentation and Automation technology to enhance the current manual inspection process used in aerospace and built environment.

Dr Ng served as an associate chair for the ACM SIGCHI 2015 Paper and Notes programme committee in User Experience and Usability and was part of the 7th management committee for the ACM SIGGRAPH Singapore Chapter. She publishes in ACM SIGCHI, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM Multimedia, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society as well as IEEE’s International Symposium of Mixed and Augmented Reality. She holds several patents and is a recipient of the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award. Jamie has a PhD in Human Factors Engineering, an MSc in Smart Product Design and BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Singapore.
