A*STAR Scientist Awarded Prestigious IEEE Fellow Recognition

2024 IEEE FellowWe are proud to announce that Dr. Yao Kui, a Senior Principal Scientist at A*STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) in Singapore, has been elevated to the status of IEEE Fellow with effect from 1 January 2024. This is a highly esteemed recognition awarded by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to less than 0.1% of their voting members annually.

Dr. Yao Kui's research primarily covers smart materials, specifically focusing on piezoelectric and ferroelectric materials, and their applications. His work on sensors and transducers, which these materials make possible, has opened up new pathways in fields such as structural and condition monitoring, ultrasonic and photoacoustic testing and diagnosis, noise and vibration mitigation, among others.

I am deeply humbled and honoured by this recognition, which could not have been possible without my research at IMRE on ferroelectrics and ferroelectrics-based piezoelectric materials and their applications for sensors being recognised by international peers in the relevant technical field. I extend my profound gratitude to my mentors, A*STAR and IMRE's management and colleagues for their guidance, leadership and unwavering support. The contributions of my team members, students, and collaborators have been invaluable to our shared success. I appreciate the recognition of my international peers and IEEE management. This prestigious award strengthens our resolve to continue our work, pushing the boundaries of science and technology.

Dr Yao Kui, 2024 Newly Elevated IEEE Fellow

The IEEE Fellow is a recognition of remarkable accomplishments that have contributed significantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science, and technology. Dr. Yao Kui's elevation to an IEEE Fellow is a testament to his significant contributions to the development of advanced ferroelectric thin films and their sensor applications.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Yao Kui on this monumental achievement and look forward to his continued contributions to science and engineering.
