A*STAR SIFBI and the Monell Chemical Senses Center have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen research collaborations in sensory science. We will explore the unique sensory dynamics of Asian and Western populations, investigating the links between food preferences, sensory physiology, and overall well-being. By combining Monell's leading sensory science expertise with SIFBI's focus on the Asian phenotype, this partnership promises innovative food, nutrition, and health solutions tailored to diverse populations, such as:
๐ Asian genetic variations in taste and smell perception
๐ How sensory experiences and sensory physiology influence mood, appetite regulation
๐ Development of sensory testing protocols tailored to Asian food
We envision Singapore becoming a vibrant hub for Asian sensory science, creating opportunities for broader regional engagement, more public-private partnerships, and the development of robust talent pipelines.
