The Innovation & Enterprise Chemicals, Materials & Sustainability cluster is committed to work with industry partners to create and develop solutions and ecosystems that addrress the frowing demands to sustainability, decarbonisation and energy sectors. Through advancing materials, chemicals, machine learning, artificial intelligence developed in A*STAR, we explore new pathways to achieve low carbon fuels and olefins, carbon mineralisation, next generation battery materials to modelling of grid solutions and waste sorting for the circular economy to fosters the state-of-the art innovations that aligns with global priorities for a healthier planet.

CARBON CAPTURE & UTILISATION

Reduce carbon footprint, support sustainability goals and create value added chemicals and fuels using CO2 as one of the potential feedstocks. The processes used could be based on electrochemical, synthetic biology or catalyst routes. Materials for carbon capture are also being assessed for adsorption and desorption from amines to solid adsorbents and validated with low concentration CO2

Exploring new generation of designed materials and catalysts to build a sustainable future. These materials may include withstanding high pressure and temperature conditions in the harsh environments, light weight but more durable and less corrosive of thermoelectric materials

WASTE RECYCLING & CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Enhance operational efficiency with software for waste profiling, to reduce waste and enable circularity and unlock new revenue streams through innovative reuse, systems and recycling practices using chemicals, electrochemical, synthetic biology and pyrolysis approaches

ENERGY & ELECTRIFICATION

Develop cutting-edge technologies to model and harness renewable energy and innovative storage systems for grid stability. Leverage advanced digital tools and data analytics to enhance grid resilience, with energy storage solutions and to improve energy/grid efficiency with hydrogen, renewable and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) mix.

CHEMICAL BIOTECH & BIOCATALYSIS
