Safeguarding the Homes of Singaporeans with the
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system
An Open and Generic Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system which can automatically capture, wirelessly transmit and analyse and visualise structural condition is crucial for critical infrastructures such as high-rise building, tunnels and transportation assets, to ensure their safety and increase maintenance productivity.
Universal Interrogator:
To achieve reliable and effective health monitoring, a single SHM project may include different types and brands of fiber optic sensors. Currently, these sensors often require different demodulation techniques and interrogators, which complicates and costs the project and limits the large-scale deployment of SHM. Our developed universal interrogator leverages existing components, particularly mass-produced optical communication components, to provide a software-definable sensor interface for demodulating these different types and brands of fiber optic sensors while achieving low cost and high reliability.
Benefit:
- Ability to interrogate multiple different fiber optic sensors (software definable for each port)
- High accuracy and resolution (comparable with existing products)
- Scalable (port number)
- Cost and power efficient
Deployment:
The system is currently undergoing large-scale deployment through our strategic industrial partners ST Engineering and Willowglen Services Pte Ltd.A*STAR celebrates International Women's Day
